Ahead of National Libraries Day on Saturday February 7, Libraries NI has announced Eoin McNamee as writer in residence for March’s Creativity Month’s celebrations.
As writer in residence, Eoin will be involved in events at a number of libraries across Northern Ireland and will be blogging about some of them on the Libraries NI website. Eoin is also supporting National Libraries Day by participating in the ‘Let’s take a Shelfie’ campaign encouraging people to take a ’Selfie’ in the library.
On hearing the news that he had been chosen as writer in residence Eoin said: 'I’m tremendously excited to be working with Libraries NI for Creativity Month. I really enjoy visiting the local library and as this announcement comes close to National Libraries Day I would like to encourage the public to show their support for libraries and love of books! They can do this by joining any of the events taking place on the day itself or by taking a ‘Selfie.’ It will be fantastic if the public get on board and upload an image of themselves to social media – this can be as simple as a photo of them in a library, surrounded by stacks of books or the more artistic could create a sculpture out of books!'
Irene Knox, Chief Executive of Libraries NI said:
'Libraries NI is looking forward to welcoming Eoin to libraries during Creativity Month and would like to thank him for backing our National Libraries Day campaign. Every day libraries throughout Northern Ireland are impacting on communities by connecting people with information, encouraging people to learn and promoting reading for pleasure. We see National Libraries Day as a way to celebrate this and an opportunity for people to show how deeply they care. All-in-all, it is a reminder to visit your local library – to use it, to love it and to join it!'
