The Digital Derry conference is being organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council through its Growing the Digital Economy Programme, and part funded by Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland.
Council, in partnership with NORIBIC and Culturetech, have planned a packed programme of talks and workshops taking place on June 24 and 25 at the North West Regional College. Launching the event at the North West Regional College, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Elisha McCallion, said: “I am delighted to see the launch of what will be a significant event for local companies. Our digital infrastructure is second to none, so it’s a fantastic opportunity for budding entrepreneurs and established businesses to benefit from the wealth of expertise and support available to assist in boosting their business.”
Growing the Digital Economy Programme Manager Rosalind Young, said it presented an opportunity for companies across N. Ireland to tap into some of the very latest digital advances. “The programme is designed to appeal to companies across a broad spectrum of industries with the shared goal of enhancing their digital services.
“The North as a whole has a fantastic digital offering in terms of infrastructure and expertise, so we want to really support local enterprises in enhancing their digital profile and gaining access to new markets.
“I am delighted at the calibre of speakers who will be leading the conference and I would really encourage any business hoping to improve their digital skills to come along and see what’s on offer.” The programme opens on June 24 with a series of talks by high profile guest speakers from locations around the world, including Silicon Valley, New York, and London.
Among them will be global logistics expert Rich Weil, Senior Vice President of Global Operations at Metaverse Mod Squad. Rich will be drawing on his experience working in worldwide project logistics, client services, and business development to advise local companies on practical business solutions.
He will be joined by US digital expert Treb Ryan, Executive of San Francisco Bay and co-founder of Dimension Data Cloud Solutions.
Invest NI’s North West Regional Manager, Des Gartland, said: “The Digital Derry conference is geared towards enhancing the digital profile of the region by equipping local enterprises with the skills to promote and develop their business.
“I am confident that through events such as this we can establish a strong network of local digital companies and strengthen our ability to deliver innovative and exciting new products and services designed to compete in a global market.”
Also speaking on Wednesday will be Ian Plunket, CMO of Tech City in London, a company committed to supporting the digital technology sector’s need for skills, infrastructure and investment.
Other speakers on the day include founder of vouchedfor.co.uk Andrew Jordan and Paul Hamill, founder of Inflyte.
The second day of the conference will offer businesses the chance to take part in a day of specialised workshops focusing on establishing a strong international presence.
