Libaries NI to Hold First Ever Crime Writers’ Week


Award-winning authors lined up for four days of free talks and stage adaptations across the country

Libraries NI is holding its first ever Crime Writers’ Week from October 20– 23 2014. During the week some of the UK’s leading crime authors will visit libraries across Northern Ireland.

The week begins on Monday October 20 with Sophie Hannah; an international bestselling author known for her psychological crime fiction. Antrim Library will provide an excellent venue for the public to enjoy, listen and ask questions to a highly acclaimed modern crime writer.

On Tuesday October 21, an evening with Hilary Bonner will be held in Newry City Library. Hilary has an exclusive writing pedigree; her previous accomplishments include being the show business editor for the Mail on Sunday and past Chairman of the Crime Writers’ Association. Hilary now devotes her time to writing crime novels.

On Wednesday 22 and Thursday October 23, Omagh and Holywood libraries will host hilarious performances by historical mystery crime authors Susanna Gregory, Karen Maitland and Michael Jecks from their penned piece ‘Medieval Murders.’ The group promises an entertaining evening based on history, mystery and the lighter side of publishing.

Also on Thursday October 23, Derry Central Library plays host to award-winning crime novelist Stephen Booth. He is best known as the writer of detective novels and being the creator of the popular series featuring sleuths DS Ben Cooper and DS Diane Fry. The evening appeals to dedicated fans and newcomers to the world of crime drama.

The week culminates with a murder mystery play ‘Operation Murder’ performed by the staff and some members from Ballyclare Library. The evening promises to be full on intrigue, scandal and comedy entertaining the audience throughout as the mystery evolves.
