Enterprise Week 2016

Derry~Strabane Council launch 5-day programme celebrating enterprise and local business

Local entrepreneurs will be delighted to hear that some of the leading figures in business will be sharing some of their strategies for success during Enterprise Week 2016, taking place at venues across Derry and Strabane from February 22 – 26.

A packed itinerary has been put together by the business team at Derry City and Strabane District Council, with experts on hand to give advice on business developments across a range of industries throughout the week.

Speaking ahead of the event Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Elisha McCallion, encouraged local companies to check out the programme. “Enterprise Week is always a tremendous success and it continues to attract support from the local business community. This year’s event now takes in the wider new council area so I particularly hope to see more businesses from Strabane joining our growing network of local companies.

“As a region we do undoubtedly face challenges in areas such as job creation and the rejuvenation of the local economy, and events such as Enterprise Week demonstrate our commitment to supporting local businesses. Through offering practical advice and assistance council hopes to help local businesses produce effective strategies for achieving growth and development which are specially tailored to their needs. I would really recommend that local business owners and entrepreneurs take a look at the programme and avail of all the support on offer.”

Delivered in partnership with the Northern Ireland Science Park, the programme for the week focuses on a number of key areas, from finance tips to leadership advice, and will appeal to a range of sectors. Speakers include Seamus McAdams of i2 Total Marketing who will be enlightening businesses on how to build a brand, Kieran Phelan of K. Phelan and Company Ltd. who will provide practical advice on managing your business finances online, and Des Mulholland who will help you harness the power of advertising on social media.

Business manager with Derry City and Strabane District Council, Louise Breslin, said: “This year’s programme brings together a wide variety of leading industry figures who will be speaking about their first hand experiences in forging a successful path in the local business industry.

“We will be focusing on areas which companies often find challenging, such as sourcing appropriate funding, keeping up with the latest developments in technology and effective management techniques. As always we expect a good turnout so I would advise anyone interested to register in advance to secure places.”

Andy McDonald, Business Development Manager at the Northern Ireland Science Park Innovation Centre, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Derry City and Strabane District Council to deliver another successful business event for the region. Here at our North West campus, we offer the perfect base for any business hoping to compete successfully in a global market. This event is an opportunity for us to showcase the state of the art facilities we offer companies at the Science Park. It promises to be an extremely positive week for local business.”

Other highlights of the week include a special Tourism Day focusing on the city’s growing tourism industry, and opportunities arising throughout the year, as well as a networking breakfast with Foyle Business Group.
