Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund through its Kick the Dust programme, the Maker Club is one of a number of pilot projects taking place across Northern Ireland to engage young people with museum heritage through digital technologies.
Over the course of eight weeks, young people aged 16-25 learned a range of new digital skills, including 3D scanning and printing, laser and vinyl cutting, photogrammetry and virtual reality, and how those practices could be used to interpret and reimagine museum collections and objects.
The group also helped to design the brand and logo for the Reimagine, Remake, Replay programme, working with a professional brand development team.
One of the participants said: 'I really enjoyed this programme, especially the virtual reality and 3D scanning elements, and seeing how things came to life in 3D printing.
'I really hope this project happens again. I would definitely want to take part again - hopefully over a longer period of time so we could do even more stuff.'
The Reimagine, Remake, Replay programme is led by a consortium including Nerve Centre, National Museums Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Museums Council and Northern Ireland Screen, and is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund's Kick the Dust programme.
