Three weeks of explosive theatre that will challenge, entertain and take audiences 'to the edge of who we are' will take place at the MAC next month.
Partnering with Prime Cut and Tinderbox Theatre Company, the leading Belfast arts venue will host EdgeFest comprising a trio of productions in its Upstairs Theatre. From February 6-11 Tinderbox will stage The Man Who Fell to Pieces, while Every Day I Wake Up Hopeful and East Belfast Boy by Prime Cut run from February 15 - March 1 and February 16 - March 2.
Speaking about the new EdgeFest programme, MAC Creative Director, Simon Magill said: 'This festival of new work is a key highlight in our season programme, which broadly explores the issues surrounding mental health in its widest sense. The festival will present three different but complementary productions which are bold and darkly comic. It also gives us an opportunity to present original work from two of NI’s most vibrant theatre companies as we explore an area of our lives which deeply impacts us all.'
The Man Who Fell to Pieces is a powerful story that celebrates what it means to be human. Beautifully poignant and a theatrically explosive feast for the mind and body; it is the signature performance for Tinderbox Theatre Company’s new adventure of exploring the potential of the imagination through physical storytelling and play.
Every Day I Wake Up Hopeful is the new play by John Patrick Higgins. Directed by Rhian Jeffrey and designed by Ciaran Bagnall, it is a poignant and funny confessional about a man who is considering throwing in the towel. Described by Broadway Baby as 'a piece of balances and opposites: the comedy and the tragedy, the ups and the downs, the hope and the despair…'
East Belfast Boy is brought to you by the award-winning team who created Red and internationally acclaimed Scorch by Stacey Gregg. It tells the story of Davy. The things he sees, his streets, his mates, his girl and… The boys.
EdgeFest is at the MAC from February 6 - March 3. Tickets are available at www.themaclive.com and those who book all three shows as part of the festival will receive a 20% discount.
